CVD Coating

The hardest material in the world for your tool geometries

With the CVD diamond coating process, CemeCon has been able to coat tool geometries three-dimensionally with the hardest material in the world since the early 90s. In this process, the pure diamond grows in polycrystalline form on the substrate surface.

In conjunction with pre-treatment methods customized to the hard metal and the application, the coatings are deposited either in crystalline or nanocrystalline form. Diamond multilayers are also state of the art. Diamond layers are fundamentally suited for processing in non-ferrous materials. The main products coated are shaft tools and indexable inserts made from hard metal. We select the appropriate hard metals in conjunction with our customers.

Market leader for diamond coatings

In the world’s largest diamond coating center, CemeCon produces coatings for a fast-growing market. These coating materials are the first choice for processing of such abrasive materials as graphite, aluminium-silicon alloys and fiber-reinforced materials for aircraft construction.

Properties of CemeCon diamond coatings:

  • Extremely abrasion-resistant
  • High level of hardness of 10,000 HV0.05
  • High heat conductivity
  • No CVD-typical lugs on sharp cutters
  • Economic: use of various cutting edges for indexable inserts
  • Can be used for high feeds, e.g. during AlSi processing
  • No binder phase
