Drilling

The greatest challenge presented by drilling, particularly with long-cutting materials, is the smooth removal of the chips from the drilled hole. For this reason, it is of great importance for the drill to have an extremely smooth surface, especially in the chip groove. Coatings can contribute enormously to this.

The first requirement is optimum composition of the coating specification. The sputter technology used by CemeCon allows very smooth surfaces to be produced. Other positive effects can be achieved using special pre-treatment and re-treatment methods.

Just a few of our areas of expertise in designing coatings for drills:

  • Step and spiral drills for
  • Hi-tech materials for aviation such as titanium-aluminium-CFP composites
  • Cast processing
  • Construction and tempering steels
  • Hypo- and hypereutectic aluminium
  • Materials that are difficult to machine
  • Drills with the highest cutting data
  • Straight-grooved drills for
  • Soft materials
  • Long-cutting applications
  • Close-fit drilled holes
  • Micro drills with and without cooling duct
  • Deep-hole drills with extremely smooth surfaces
  • .... not forgetting standard drills made from high-performance steel and hard metal, of course

The design and composition of the coating specification for refining your high-performance product is not limited to the selection of our extensive coating material range. Surface qualities, coating thicknesses, tolerances and color layouts must be incorporated into every design.

Ask our customer advisors. They will show you how to design your own high-performance coating in conjunction with our experienced engineers.
